Patchworks Farm is a way to invest
in kids
working
to create a sustainable future.
The Community
Service Learning Connection (CSLC) in collaboration with schools, environmental groups, and youth builds
paths to more earth friendly life.
What is the underlying motivation
of our mission?
We act out of concern
for the quality of life which may be experienced by our progeny if our current cultural trajectory doesn’t change.
Overconsumption, growing global population, extreme militarism, religious fundamentalism, abuse
of technology, oil depletion, and environmental degradation, all point to an uncertain
future for our youth and we, as older adults, parents and grandparents want to try and do something to
create hope.
Consequently,
we want to create cultural change utilizing the energy, skills, personal talents and creative instincts of our youth encouraging
the use of local resources and their talent to foster a spirit of community self-reliance.
We believe this is the most likely path toward a sustainable, just and peaceful future.
The Patchworks Farm Project- an outdoor learning laboratory.
The vision: Creating an outdoor learning laboratory by
June of 2010
In order to facilitate the mission of CSLC and the development of Patchworks Farm outdoor
learning laboratory, the project will recruit and support youth interns who
will become active in the development of the project. These
youth will make a commitment to the mission/vision and be paid for their work. They
will be supported by staff and skilled volunteer mentors from the community working with them. They will
develop programs at the farm to model sustainability, and share what they learn within the community.
